Hello and thanks for checking in!
Ultrasound number five today went well. It was a level 2 ultrasound and it was at a different place (a part of Mercy). They have a nice new office and equipment, we had the same ultrasound tech that did our very first ultrasound. She remembered us, pretended she did or at the very least checked my chart before we came in - which was nice. :-) The rooms are nice and it is easier to see the stuff on the screen we get to look at than the place we've been going to in Maple Grove.
Everything is looking great. The tech saw more convincing evidence that the baby is a girl. We saw some very cool shots of her face, could see the lips, tip of her nose and everything. The pictures we were given only look a little odd because the soft tissue of the eyes don't show up so all you can see is a face with eye sockets. At one point the tech pointed out where she could see that her one of her eyes was open. She also added color to get a better look at the blood flow to and from the heart. That was pretty cool. I forgot the pictures at work, so they will have to be added later.
According to the tech, and later the doctor, everything is looking normal. Her kidneys are working (bladder was full) and she is swallowing (stomach was full), the blood flow to and from the heart is good (the pretty colors looked good to me), the cord is good, and the brain structures are all normal (I wonder if she has a "Mangledorf" head - then again maybe I shouldn't think about that until I have to).
My fluid levels are still in the low end of normal, the tech said that their normal is about 8 (I'm at 12.3 or something now) and my last ultrasound they thought I was at a 7.
According to their measurements, the baby is right on track for 28+ weeks, it's head, arms legs and all that are all normal measurements. They estimated her weight to be about 2 pounds 9 oz. (From what I've read online, the closer to the due date the more "off" the weight estimates get - but it makes sense right now).
From what I gathered today, there isn't a need to follow up at this point - we'll wait to hear the offical news from my doctor and see what the plan will be. Next routine check up will be in 4 weeks.
