Let the good times roll...

I can’t believe how time flies. It seems like we’ve been pregnant forever and yet, I cannot believe that we are only 8 weeks away! I am very excited.

Last weekend, Rob and I attended our Childbirth and Parenting class. I think we picked up a couple factoids during class that we didn’t know before, and we were able to tour the labor and delivery area. When we passed by the nursery all of the class participants were forced into nervous giggling - there was a 10 pound 2 ounce baby (toddler?!) with a full head of hair that was just brought in. Just a stab in the dark, but I think the mom might have needed some time for herself in her room. I’ll just say what everyone else was thinking, (of course wishing for a perfectly health baby like she was) “Please – not 10 pounds!”

Wednesday morning, I woke up to a bit of surprise: Rob was not able to move because he was in so much pain. He said that he was experiencing the worst pain he’s ever experience in his life. He ended up getting downstairs (1 hour later) and finally to the car (another hour later) off to the clinic we went. We were able to get in to see his doctor – and quickly ruled out my diagnosis of kidney stones. I guess that’s a good thing, as we did avoid a trip to the hospital. Rob threw his back out so we were sent on our way with a prescription for painkillers, muscle relaxants and ibuprofen. We were able to pick them up right away at our neighborhood pharmacy and he was asleep within an hour. He has been doing a lot better, but is still in some pain and won’t be sprinting anytime soon.

Thursday my mom was in town. We made it to our doctor’s appointments, lunch and shopping. It was a very fun day. Her update is: stitches out=good. J My appointment went well, too. My blood sugar and measurements are all good. The official report from my last ultrasound has me in the normal range for my fluids – but still on the low end. So, my doctor requested another ultrasound to keep an eye on things. That appointment is next week. I also get to go in every two weeks for my appointments now, so I’ll have a regular doctor’s appointment the following week as well.

Baby clothes update: Hope, my mom and I went through bins and bins of clothes at Hope’s house. Seriously, Hailey must have/should have won “Best Dressed” child at day care. There were clothes that I don’t remember Hailey wearing – so I’m convinced there must have been a few months I wasn’t allowed to be around her. I really appreciate being able to use these hand-me-downs, they were so fun to look at and go through; I’m excited to have the baby wear all of the adorable outfits!!!

I'll have to add a picture of the figurine that my mom gave me - Thank you Mom, it's beautiful!

The baby "suite"

Rob is back from a quick trip to Michigan to see his family. I missed him and am glad to have him home. Of course, there were two storms while he was away - we didn't have any damage here, thankfully. We did have problems with our phone and internet for a few days. When the phone company came to check it out, they said that lightning hit the boxes or somewhere close and they were surprised we had service at all.

Rob and I were able to set up the baby's crib today, thanks to the Bolla's generous shower gifts. We know the pillow/blanket/whatnot shouldn't be in there when the baby is in there - but doesn't it look fantastic?!

We think it looks great and really appreciate the generous gifts.

Ultrasound V

Hello and thanks for checking in!

Ultrasound number five today went well. It was a level 2 ultrasound and it was at a different place (a part of Mercy). They have a nice new office and equipment, we had the same ultrasound tech that did our very first ultrasound. She remembered us, pretended she did or at the very least checked my chart before we came in - which was nice. :-) The rooms are nice and it is easier to see the stuff on the screen we get to look at than the place we've been going to in Maple Grove.

Everything is looking great. The tech saw more convincing evidence that the baby is a girl. We saw some very cool shots of her face, could see the lips, tip of her nose and everything. The pictures we were given only look a little odd because the soft tissue of the eyes don't show up so all you can see is a face with eye sockets. At one point the tech pointed out where she could see that her one of her eyes was open. She also added color to get a better look at the blood flow to and from the heart. That was pretty cool. I forgot the pictures at work, so they will have to be added later.

According to the tech, and later the doctor, everything is looking normal. Her kidneys are working (bladder was full) and she is swallowing (stomach was full), the blood flow to and from the heart is good (the pretty colors looked good to me), the cord is good, and the brain structures are all normal (I wonder if she has a "Mangledorf" head - then again maybe I shouldn't think about that until I have to).

My fluid levels are still in the low end of normal, the tech said that their normal is about 8 (I'm at 12.3 or something now) and my last ultrasound they thought I was at a 7.

According to their measurements, the baby is right on track for 28+ weeks, it's head, arms legs and all that are all normal measurements. They estimated her weight to be about 2 pounds 9 oz. (From what I've read online, the closer to the due date the more "off" the weight estimates get - but it makes sense right now).

From what I gathered today, there isn't a need to follow up at this point - we'll wait to hear the offical news from my doctor and see what the plan will be. Next routine check up will be in 4 weeks.

28 weeks

I had my dr. appointment today. My weight blood pressure and all that are just fine. According to their information, I'm up 3 pounds since my last vist a month ago. Overall, up 5 pounds 2 oz from my low weight. That was after lunch, so I'm going with my scale which keeps telling me that I'm up 4 from my low point. The baby's heart beat was at 142. I just checked my lab results online and I'll be getting a phone call to tell me to take an iron supplement. Yeah. Iron. Fun.

At least other food sounds good to me now. I've been snacking quite a bit and controlling my poritions at lunch and dinner- as I'm supposed to do. My blood sugars have been good - I have to eat what I'm supposed to, but that's good.

So, now we wait until Monday morning's ultrasound result to see what's going on with my fluid levels. Cross your fingers for at least the same amount (if not more). I got the offical results of my last ultrasound, which didn't say anything we didn't already know. Low side of normal fluids and one good looking baby!

After the appointment, we battled lake traffic to go to the St. Michael movie theater for a special treat. We went to see the Bourne Ultimatium. It was pretty good. Worth the trip. On the way there, the baby kicked so hard that it startled the heck out of me - kindof hurt. It's been VERY active the last few days. Lucky for me, it hasn't interupted any sleep yet. Not that I have ever had an issues sleeping, of course.
